Case Study - Neighbors Together
Transforming Fundraising Capacity
The Challenge
Neighbors Together, a soup kitchen and advocacy organization committed to ending hunger and poverty in the Ocean Hill, Brownsville, and Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhoods of Brooklyn, three of the lowest-income areas in New York City, was on the brink of losing support from their largest institutional funder if they had a flat campaign and failed to grow their fundraising base.
The Solution
Over the course of a year, Social Dividends worked with the Neighbor’s Together Board of Directors to make fundraising a priority. Starting with the creation of a realistic development plan, we then provided ongoing coaching to the Executive Director and board members. This culminated with their first fundraising event far surpassing their goal and introducing a large number of new donors to the organization, setting the stage for long-term sustainability.
Neighbors Together not only retained the support of their largest funder, they were also invited to participate in an elite cohort of the funder. In addition, Neighbor’s Together gained the financial and leadership strength it needed to grow and expand.
The Social Dividend
Hot meals served to those in need. A community empowered and revitalized through its advocacy efforts addressing issues of housing and food security.
